Project mirror and corkboard

I get to the point where I really need to do a project, so I looked around for some inspiration and decided to make a cute corkboard for Erin so she can put all her fun preschool art up.  I went to the DI and got this lovely picture of birds for $4.00.

I think it turned out pretty cute. 

My next project was to redo this mirror that I found also at the DI.

This is how it turned out.  Next up, a desk we bought that we'll put in Erin's room.  Stay tuned...

Myths

The other day we were driving somewhere in the van and I saw all the pretty blossoms all over, so I said "Look guys, there's popcorn popping on that tree over there!"  Liam immediately fires back "That's a myth Mom, they're just flowers."
He has also decided that the tooth fairy and the Easter Bunny are myths too.  I said something about Santa and he asked me if Santa was real.  I said "What do you think?"  He thought about it and said "Yes, he's real, but it's just a guy in a Santa suit."

Birthday Party

Liam turned six years old last month.  He wanted sloppy joes for dinner and he invited both Grandma and Grandpas to his party.  My parents couldn't come because my Dad just got both his knees replaced, and they live kind of far for a birthday party.  Liam also invited Aunt Amy and his cousin Ethan and his family.  We ate, opened presents and had cake.  Amy stayed and for a very special treat for his birthday, we let him stay up late and play video games with Amy.  He woke up the next morning and said, "Man, that was some party last night eh Mom?"  He's a funny boy. 

Here he is opening presents.  He was a little put out that the sign behind him said B-day instead of birthday.  I didn't want to cut out all the extra letters though, so we convinced him b-day was a good abbreviation.

Maria and fam got him some cowboy boots, which he loves and wears all over the place.

He got some dollar coins from Aunt Amy and loves them too.  He asked us for two bags of jellybeans and a plant for his window because "I have a north facing window, Mom, and plants do really well in a north facing window."  Um...Yeah, he's only six.  That's all he wanted for his birthday though, so we got him the jellybeans and a snakeplant.  We told him we are going to get him a Venus Flytrap as soon as they come in.  He's pretty excited.

Ahhhh!!!  The pièce de résistance!!  Julie came through again with this AWESOME Spongebob cake.  All I said was "Liam wants a Spongebob cake for his birthday, what should I do?"  and ta-dum!  She is amazing I tell ya, AMAZING!!  She did everything with the exception of the lovely artwork on top, courtesy of my printer and my colored pencils.

I think he had a really good birthday.  He's such a good boy and we are so very blessed to have him in our family!

Kindergarten Program

Liam had his end of year Kindergarten program.  The kids sang one song for each moth they have been in school.  Then they had a little slideshow of what they've been doing all year.  It was fun to see, because every time I ask Liam "what did you do today in school?"  I get "Um...I can't remember." or, "I had recess!"  This is the standard answer, even if I ask him right as he gets in the van when I pick him up from school. I took some pictures, but was kind of far back and the lighting wasn't very good, so excuse the quality please.

After each song, Liam would stand up and bow to the audience.  Yes, it was just him doing the bowing.  What a ham.

This was the funniest song.  The kids ended up with their tongues out, singing, eyes closed and turning around.  Watching five and six year olds doing this and bumping into each other was so, so funny.

It was fun to see all that they've learned.  His end of year assessment is next week.  He's getting so big!!

I caught Owen with Liam's cowboy boots and his friend's cowboy hat on.  Yee-haw!  I guess he comes by it rightly what with my roots and all.
